MEDICAL SURGICAL DEPARTMENT

The Medical Surgical Department provides an excellent level of care to our patients and their families, as demonstrated by our commitment to the Championship Culture. The development of this culture has resulted in receiving some of the highest patient satisfaction scores in the nation. These scores reflect our dedication and commitment to excellence in patient and family centered services.

The staff of the Medical Surgical Department provides care to a diversity of clients. These include medical, surgical, pediatric, same day surgery and cardiac monitored patients. The department also offers care in a 2-bed Intensive Care Unit and an end-of-life family suite as well. Additionally, this nursing unit provides services for patients requiring various levels of care including acute, skilled (swing-bed), observation and extended level of care (private pay). Staffing patterns are reviewed daily to insure appropriate levels of nursing care.

The Jefferson County Health Center campus has been well established for more than 100 years. JCHC provides exceptional healthcare to patients and families in our new state-of-the-art hospital which opened in 2009.  Our campus incorporates a family practice, staff surgeons, dialysis center, physical therapy, sleep lab, out-patient surgical center and an exceptional emergency department with a cardiac monitoring station.  At JCHC, it is our privilege to serve our customers both internal and external, promote healing and provide the highest quality of life.

Staff

The Medical Surgical Department is composed of highly professional, dedicated, skilled and compassionate individuals who consist of registered nurses (RN), licensed practical nurses (LPN), registered nurse extenders, certified nurse aids (CNA) and ward clerks. The entire nursing staff is BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certified. The registered nursing staff is ACLS/CCU (Advanced Cardiac Life Support/Coronary Care Unit) certified.

Continuity of Care

A multi-disciplinary team meets weekly to develop a Comprehensive Discharge Plan for each patient. Patients and family are welcome to attend. A follow-up phone call after discharge is made to evaluate the transition to home.

Complimentary Services

  • Room Service - Patients can select their personal food preference from a menu and have it delivered at the time they desire. The meal is prepared and delivered directly to the patient.
  • Communication - Communication boards are located in each patient's room. The board shows the patient who their personal care providers will be and other important information.
  • Waiting areas - While families wait, fresh fruit, cookies and beverages are provided free of charge to the family.
  • Overnight stay - For family members wishing to stay in-house, there is a window seat in each room large enough for one adult.
  • We care - After discharge, a follow up phone call is made by the nursing staff and a letter of appreciation is sent to each patient.
  • Quiet Time - One hour of uninterrupted rest is provided daily between 1 - 2 p.m. to promote health and healing.
  • Chaplain Program - This service is provided by a group of local ministers. They provide emergency on-call support to patients and families and visit patients who would like to be seen daily.
