Blood Donors Make a Difference!

During the month of January, National Volunteer Blood Donor a Month, it’s a great time to thank the volunteers who provide for our region’s blood supply and to encourage others to join their ranks. Thank you, donors, for providing a critical resource that helps save lives!

Jefferson County Health Center relies on Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center as its exclusive provider of blood components used for patient transfusions. In turn, MVRBC relies on generous volunteers who donate at blood drives held at the hospital and other locations in Fairfield and across our region.

The use of blood is constant year-round. Hospitals are always open, always treating patients, and blood is used for a variety of conditions that never take a day off (ie. cancer treatment, surgeries, complications with child birth, or trauma).

The blood supply has been recently impacted by the busy holiday season, when the donation rate drops by about 20% and then by extreme cold and winter weather conditions during early January. It all adds up and this means MVRBC needs all the help donors can provide to improve appointment schedules and continue to provide a sufficient blood supply for JCHC and other hospitals of the MVRBC service region. Learn about upcoming mobile blood drives by calling the Blood Center at (800) 747-5401 or schedule online at www.bloodcenterimpact.org.
