Celebrating Dr. David Larson: Lifetime Achievement Honoree Announces Retirement After Nearly 40 Years of Service
Fairfield, IA – Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC) is honored to announce that longtime Family Medicine physician David Larson, MD, has been awarded the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP). In addition to this distinguished recognition, Dr. Larson will retire from clinical practice at the end of the year. Both milestones celebrate a career defined by compassion, leadership, and decades of trusted care for families in Fairfield and across Jefferson County.
The IAFP Lifetime Achievement Award is especially distinguished as nominees are submitted by fellow physicians and selected by a committee of peers. The Iowa Academy of Family Physicians expressed deep gratitude for Dr. Larson’s outstanding service to his patients, his community, and the field of family medicine.
Dr. Sebastian Harris, fellow family physician, shared a tribute highlighting Dr. Larson’s impact, “Dr. David Larson has spent nearly four decades caring for the Fairfield community and advancing family medicine through his leadership at JCHC and in statewide professional organizations. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he is beloved for his warm personality, good humor, love of the outdoors, and genuine kindness.”
Dr. Larson has served the Fairfield community and surrounding areas for 35 years, beginning his practice in 1990 with the Fairfield Clinic and joining the JCHC medical staff following the clinic’s merger in 2016. After earning his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completing his family medicine residency at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, he built a long and respected career providing consistent, compassionate care to patients across southeastern Iowa. His decades of service reflect his deep commitment to family medicine and his role as a trusted provider within JCHC.
As he enters retirement, Dr. Larson looks forward to spending more time with family, traveling, and contributing to Thimbles for You, the handcrafted sewing tools business operated by his wife, Jan.
