Iowa Hospital Association Recognizes Kelsey Rubey Occupational Therapist, Jefferson County Health Center, with 2026 Hospital Hero Award

Fairfield, Iowa – On Wednesday, Oct. 7, the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) honored Kelsey Rubey Occupational Therapist at Jefferson County Health Center, as a 2026 Hospital Hero in recognition of her exceptional service, dedication and impact on patients, colleagues and the community. Kelsey Rubey was one of 10 Iowa hospital employees selected to receive this year's award recognition.

“Kelsey's impact extends far beyond her job title. Through her compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the patients of Jefferson County Health Center, Kelsey embodies the values that define Iowa’s healthcare workforce. We couldn't be prouder to see Kelsey recognized as an Iowa Hospital Hero,” said Bryan Hunger, CEO of Jefferson County Health Center.

Kelsey was nominated for the award because of her compassion, professionalism and dedication to helping others, both in her role as an occupational therapist at Jefferson County Health Center and beyond. Her commitment to caring for others was demonstrated when a fellow attendee collapsed during a church service. Kelsey immediately stepped forward, performing CPR and providing lifesaving care until emergency responders arrived. Her quick response and calm demeanor in a moment of crisis reflect her commitment to serving others. Through her work as an occupational therapist, Kelsey continues to make a meaningful difference by helping patients overcome challenges, regain independence, and return to the activities that matter most to them.

“Receiving this award is an incredible honor. You never know when you might be in a situation where someone needs your help. I am thankful for the training and skills that gave me the confidence to respond in that moment,” said Kelsey Rubey.

Each year, hospitals across the state of Iowa nominate outstanding employees for the IHA Hospital Heroes Awards. Recipients are selected based on their commitment to serving others and the meaningful difference they make within their organizations and communities.
