Jefferson County Health Center Proudly Supports ASPEN Malnutrition Awareness Week™

Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC) is proud to be an official ambassador of ASPEN Malnutrition Awareness Week™, taking place September 8-12, 2025. This national initiative is dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of malnutrition and promoting early identification and treatment.

Malnutrition is a serious and often overlooked condition that can affect individuals of any age, size, or background. It occurs when the body doesn't receive the nutrients it needs to maintain healthy function. This can happen even when someone appears to be eating enough. Malnutrition is especially common among people with chronic illnesses, hospitalized patients, and older adults.

Know the Signs of Malnutrition

Recognizing the early warning signs is key to preventing more serious complications. Symptoms may include:

  • Unintended weight loss
  • Loss of appetite or interest in eating
  • Muscle weakness or feeling tired
  • Swelling or fluid retention
  • Wounds that are slow to heal
  • Changes in hair, skin, or nails
  • Increased risk of infection
  • Confusion, forgetfulness, or irritability

If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, it’s important to take action. Malnutrition is treatable—but only if it’s recognized.

Take the First Step

As a proud ambassador of Malnutrition Awareness Week™, JCHC is committed to spreading knowledge and encouraging early intervention. Don’t wait—talk to your primary care provider if you have concerns about your nutrition or a loved one’s. Early detection and proper support can significantly improve health and quality of life.
