Men’s Health Week: Protect Your Heart
June 11, 2025
Heart disease remains the number one cause of death for men in the United States—and many of the risks start to build long before symptoms appear. This Men’s Health Week, we want to highlight the importance of heart health and encourage men to take steps that can prevent serious issues down the road.
Men are more likely to develop heart disease at a younger age compared to women, and often experience heart attacks earlier in life. That’s why understanding your risk—and acting on it—is critical. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, excess weight, and lack of physical activity are some of the most common risk factors. But what makes heart disease so dangerous is that it can progress silently for years before causing noticeable symptoms.
The good news is that many of these risks are controllable. Simple changes like moving more throughout the day, limiting foods high in salt and saturated fats, reducing stress, and quitting tobacco use can all lower your chances of developing heart problems. Regular visits with your provider are key. Knowing your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and other markers can help you stay on track—or make adjustments before issues arise.
At JCHC, our providers can work with you to assess your heart health and help create a prevention plan that fits your life. Don’t wait for a warning sign—take care of your heart today. Schedule an appointment with a Healthcare Provider by calling 641-472-4156.
