Summer Snacking Series: Week 1 – Apple Nachos

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy fresh fruit, and this week's Summer Snacking Series features a fun twist on a classic favorite: Apple Nachos!

Apple nachos are an easy, nutritious snack that combines crisp apples with protein-rich toppings for a satisfying treat. Whether you're packing snacks for a road trip, heading to the park, or looking for an afternoon pick-me-up, this recipe is simple to prepare and easy to customize for the whole family.

Apples are an excellent source of fiber, particularly soluble fiber called pectin, which supports digestive health and helps you feel full longer. They also provide vitamin C and antioxidants that support your immune system. Pairing apples with peanut butter, almond butter, or another nut or seed butter adds protein and heart-healthy fats, creating a balanced snack that provides steady energy.

The best part? Everyone can build their own version. Try adding whole-grain granola for crunch, a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor, chopped walnuts or pecans for healthy fats, or a few mini dark chocolate chips for a sweet treat.

Build Your Apple Nachos

  • 1 apple, sliced
  • 1–2 tablespoons peanut butter or almond butter
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon
  • Whole-grain granola
  • Chopped nuts (optional)
  • Raisins or dried cranberries (optional)
  • Mini dark chocolate chips (optional)

Healthy Tip

To keep apple slices fresh if you're packing them ahead of time, toss them with a small amount of lemon juice to help prevent browning.
